Into the Valley, Turkey, 21 - 28 July 2019

Set in a secluded mountain valley in Turkey, we'll spend a week exploring movement, dynamic yoga, more mellow fare, locomotion, pole work and handstands. You don't have to have any experience in any particular discipline, just a willingness to play and explore what you're REALLY capable of. Oh, and a sense of humour, fun and adventure!

Huzur Vadisi is Turkey’s longest established and best-known yoga holiday retreat. Established in 1993, it was the first centre of its kind in Turkey and one of the very first in Europe. In a secluded mountain valley, surrounded by pine forest, the yurt accommodation nestles amid olive and fig groves. It is an oasis of peace in natural surroundings, simple and rustic with shared bathroom facilities, yet comfortable and beautifully maintained with all conveniences in the yurts. The only sounds are birdcalls and goat bells, and the soft sound of wind in the surrounding forest. At night the valley is dark, without light pollution, revealing all the beauty of the night sky. At full moon it is truly magical to see the forest and valley bathed in moonlight, a favourite activity is a nightime walk. Huzur Vadisi’s setting brings a deep connection with the natural world that immeasurably enhances the benefits of yoga practice.

It may seem a world away, and yet Huzur Vadisi is only a fifteen-minute drive from the sea and the small, yachting resort of Göcek with its seafront cafes and shops and which makes a nice contrast to the rural life in the valley! Excursions can be arranged, including the ‘famous’ Huzur Vadisi boat trip for swimming with lunch aboard, sailing around the beautiful bays and islands of Göcek. Several lovely beaches are within 10 – 15 minutes driving distance and transport can be arranged.

The area also has lovely mountain and forest walks, with far reaching views of the coast. Shopping or sightseeing trips can also be arranged, as can a trip to the Turkish baths.

In a quiet rural area, with the small yachting village of Gocek nearby, this part of Turkey is a quiet backwater with welcoming and friendly local people for whom nothing is too much trouble. Tanfer, the owner and manager, has more than 25 years experience of facilitating yoga retreats, Huzur Vadisi making the short list of the world’s best yoga retreats numerous times.

Locally sourced ingredients go into making the delicious, healthy meals once described as ‘legendary’ by Harpers and Queen magazine. A Huzur Vadisi Cookbook (available on Amazon) was produced in response to popular demand from guests.
